The residents of the volcano island hope that they won’t have to be relocated very far away.

According to GMA News, local government officials will still have to finalize details with the residents living on the island, which is part of Talisay town, Batangas.

The residents, who are still in evacuation centers in Tanawan City, hoped for an in-town relocation in order to ensure safety over their livelihoods.

This was reported by GMA’s Ian Cruz, who posted this on Twitter. This is what he wrote:

Residents of Sitio San Isidro admitted that they knew all along that living on the island is not permitted.

As per the report, they hope that local authorities can relocate them to an area where they can sustain their sources of income, like fising.

Volcano Island, as a whole, is a Permanent Danger Zone, as per the statement from the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS). This means that permanent settlement on the island is highly not recommended.

Preisident Rodrigo Duterte already signed the recommendation to make the island a “No Man’s Land“.
