Meet Cebu’s Bets for Miss Universe Philippines 2020

MISS UNIVERSE PHILIPPINES 2020 – Get to know the three beauty queens who will represent Cebu City for the first edition of Miss Universe Philippines 2020.

Cebu is considered as one of the pageant powerhouses in the Philippines. Last year, Gazini Ganados represented the country for Miss Universe 2019 in the United States.

This year, three ladies from the city aspire to become Philippine’s next representative in the most prestigious pageant. They are Apriel Smith, Lou Dominique Piczon and Tracy Maureen Perez. They are among the 52 official candidates for the first edition of Miss Universe Philippines 2020.

Based on a report from Cebu Daily News, the candidates were introduced during the red carpet at the Manila Hotel last Friday, February 14. Miss Universe Philippines 2020 is led by Miss Universe 2011 3rd runner up Shamcey Supsup. The organization is no longer part of the Binibining Pilipinas franchise.

Cebuana beauty queens Tracy Maureen Perez, Apriel Smith, and Lou Dominique Piczon and is handled by the camp that produces big titles like Miss International 2016 Kylie Versoza, Miss World 2013 Megan Young, and Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach.

According to the report, this Cebuana beauty surprised everyone when she appeared during the last day of application for the Miss U PH 2020 pageant. She finished Top 12 in the Miss World PH 2019. She will be representing Cebu City in the upcoming Miss U PH pageant.

Tracy has won several crowns before joining the national pageants. She was hailed as Binibining Cebu Charity in 2018 and placed 2nd runner-up during the Miss Cebu pageant in 2016.

2. Apriel Smith

The 23-year-old professional model and beauty queen is the first-ever Binibining Cebu 2017. She joined Binibining Pilipinas in 2016. She eventually made it to the Top 15, where Maxine Medina was hailed as the Binibining Pilipinas Universe 2016.

Apriel admitted that it’s a bit challenging for Cebuanas to join this year’s pageant after Gazini Ganados’ victory last year. “The bar was set higher than expected. I am very inspired by Gazini’s performance throughout her journey because I know it was not that easy to carry all the pressure in Miss Universe 2019. I am so proud of her. She is not just an ordinary Cebuana but also a friend,” she said.

The “Black Barbie ng Cebu” started pageantry and modeling at the age of 12. Other titles in her belt were Sinulog Festival Queen 2012, Miss Dumanjug 2011, Miss Badian 2015, Ms. Cebu City Olympics 2012, and Miss Isabela 2019.

3. Lou Dominique Piczon

The 24-year-old account executive and beauty queen made history when she won the title Binibining Cebu Heritage in 2018. She still feels surreal about being part of the candidates for Miss Universe Philippines 2020.

Just like Apriel, she admitted that there is pressure after her fellow Cebuana Gazini won the title last year. “It (pressure) is more on meeting people’s expectations of me and not disappointing them. I honestly do not want to disappoint myself as well this being my childhood dream,” she said.

She will be representing Mandaue City in the most-awaited pageant. She earned titles like USJ-R Ms. Intramurals, Ms. Catbalogan City Athletic Association 2008, Ms. Summer Queen 2013 1st Runner-up, and Reyna ng Aliwan 2016 2nd runner-up

Based on the report, the grand coronation night for the Miss Universe Philippines 2020 is slated on May 3, 2020, at the Mall of Asia.
