Cebu City Government Offers Senior High, College Scholarship
CEBU CITY – The Cebu City government has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with 19 schools in the city for the scholarship of 9.7K students.
Accepting diplomas is undoubtedly one of the best things that could happen to a student and their parents. However, his kid of happiness is not shared by the majority of Pinoys. The youth are forced to do other things than going to school.
One of the reasons is the tuition fees. Parents fail to continue the education of their children because they can’t afford the expenses.
Some local governments in the Philippines offer scholarship programs to some students. Based on a report from Cebu Daily News, 9.7K students are going to benefit Cebu City’s scholarship program.
Recently, Cebu’s government has signed a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with 19 partner schools in the city for a scholarship program of 9,700 students in the city.
According to the report, Mayor Edgardo Labella led the MOA signing with the schools. The Cebu City government will give 10,000 educational subsidies to the scholars in senior high school and college levels. They started the scholarship program in 2014.
The mayor said the financial support from the government helps the less fortunate to continue and finish their studies and hopefully reduce the number of poor people in the city.
“It is one of our important duties to provide education to our citizens in Cebu City. Many of our underprivileged citizens could no longer go to college. So I hope our partner schools will take of our deserving scholars because the money of the city, the taxpayer’s money, are going to them,” said Labella.
Based on the report, Mayor Edgardo Labella said the Cebu City government also wanted to give free uniforms to all elementary and high school students. He encourages scholars to study well to become professionals and serve the city in the future.
