MHD Denies Online Reports About Binondo Hospital Confirming Coronavirus Case

The Manila Health Department (MHD) reacts to the online claims that the Binondo Hospital confirmed a coronavirus case.

Over the past few weeks, the novel coronavirus has become the headlines of both local and international news outlets worldwide. The rapid spread of the virus in different countries all around the world triggers fear and panic among the public.

A lot of countries are already implementing precautionary measures and stricter regulations at the airport to prevent the spread of the mysterious disease. Passengers from China were strictly checked by the quarantine personnel.

Coronavirus Case

On Monday (January 27, 2020), the Manila Health Department denied the claims circulating on social media confirming a case of novel coronavirus at Metropolitan Hospital in Binondo.

Manila City Health Officer Dr. Arnold Pangan explained that the Chinese national confined at the Binondo Hospital has been diagnosed with community-acquired pneumonia and not coronavirus.

Pangan said that the 27-year-old Chinese man is from Obei, China and not from nCov’s town epicenter ‘Wuhan’. He also said that the patients are now recovering and do not have a fever.

“As of the moment, the patient is well and does not have fever,” Pangan said

Manila Mayor Isko Moreno also urged the public to stop spreading unverified or false information to avoid worsening public anxiety.
