Davao Oriental Hit by Earthquake with 3.8 Magnitude
EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 3.8 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental today, January 17, 2020.
Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.
One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.
Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.
Recently, a quake has hit a part of Davao Oriental. At 11:39 am today, January 17, 2020, Mati City was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 3.8. An instrumental intensity was recorded of the said quake.
According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Davao Oriental was located at 06.72°North, 126.38°East – 032 km South 35° East of Mati City. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 131 kilometers.
Phivolcs stated Instrumental Intensity I was felt in Malungon, Sarangani. There are no damages and aftershocks expected from the quake.
