Twink Macaraig dies due to this disease.

TWINK MACARAIG – Veteran journalist and broadcaster Twink Macaraig died after long battle against cancer, Tuesday, January 14.

Former anchor of ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC) show Dateline Philippines and the opinion program The Brew, Filipino bureau chief of Channel News Asia, and TV5 reporter Twink Macaraig dies of breast cancer after long battle against it. She was diagnosed last 2002 and surpassed it but these killer cells came back to her surprise in 2016. Upon discovering that her cancer returned, it has already metastasized and advanced into Stage 4.

In her interview regarding the disease, she said, “Bahala ka na Diyos, I will spend my time on this earth and then when I have to go, I’ll be ready,” and last March 2019, in her column in The Philippine Star called “Deliberately”, she stated there that she is ready to die.

It read as per PEP:

“I’ve long made peace with my demise.
My last will and testament—handwritten amidst many tears—is in the safe.
I could Give Up. Succumb. Surrender.
But I won’t.
While the very heart of me—that chamber that stores my conscience and conviction, love and dreams, memory and self-respect—remains unbreached, I will fight.”

Aside from being a columnist in the above mentioned online platforms, she also writes for Esquire Philippines and worked as a part-time faculty member and lecturer at the University of the Philippines Diliman-College of Mass Communication.

She left her husband Architect Paulo Alcazaren and her only son. Twink is the child of former Executive Secretary Catalino Macaraig Jr.
