Who Is Michelangelo? About The Famous Renaissance Painter
MICHELANGELO – In this topic, we will now know and discuss one of the greatest artists in the Renaissance period, Michelangelo.
Born Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni, he is an Italian sculptor, painter, architect and poet in the High era of the Renaissance period.
He was born in March 6, 1475 in the Caprese, a town in Valtiberina, which is near Arezzo, Tuscany. He exerted an exceptional influence on the development of Western art.
His father is Ludovico di Leonardo Buonarroti Simoni, who worked at a government post in the said town.
Works
Some of his famous works include:
- Madonna of the Steps
- His earliest known work carved in shallow relief, a technique often employed by another known artist Donatello. It also contains a child posing in a twisting motion, which is soon to be the feature of his work
- Ceiling of the Sistine Chapel
- Painted between 1508 and 1512. It is a flattened barrel vault which is supported on twelve triangular pendentives. This was painted at the commission of Pope Julius II.
- David
- A 5.17-metre 17.0 feet marble sculpture created between 1501 to 1504. It is a statue of David in the Bible, who is often the favored subject in the art of Florence.
