Philippines To Experience Longest Night Of The Year On December 22, 2019
LONGEST NIGHT IN THE PHILIPPINES – According to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) the Philippines will experience its longest night Today (Dec. 22).
According to PAGASA’s astronomical diary, the Sun would reach the Winter Solstice on December 22 at 12:19 PM (PST). This would mean that the sun is at its farthest point south of the equator.
This signals the onset of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and summer in the Southern Hemisphere. With this, the Philippines’ nights would be longer than the daytime.
As per the astronomical advisory, this signals that the earth has now completed another annual circuit around the sun.
Because the Philippines is a tropical country, residents wouldn’t be able to experience winter. But, the people in the country would still experience cooler temperatures and longer nights.
The Winter Solstice brings out a late dawn, early sunset, a shorter day, and a longer night. No matter where you are located in the world, the solstice happens for you.
It’s time to get cozy and comfy as you’d be able to sleep like a baby and get rid of all the stress you have. This is the reason why you might find your friends saying that the nights are starting to get longer.
In other cultures, the Winter Solstice is celebrated differently. For example, in Iran, the solstice is called the “Yalda night”.In this night, residents gather and celebrate by eating, drinking, and reciting poetry.
Meanwhile, in East Asia, the solstice is celebrated as part of the Twenty-four Solar Terms. In Japan, in order for you not to catch a cold in the winter, it is a custom to soak oneself in a yuzu hot bath.
