Duterte Family Safe From Massive Quake That Hit Mindanao Says Panelo
DUTERTE FAMILY SAFE – The family of President Rodrigo Duterte was safe following the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that rocked parts of Mindanao on Sunday afternoon.
The areas of Mindanao have been hit by several quakes within the last few months. This time, Davao Del Sur suffered from another quake.
Following the massive quake, the town of Padada was forced to declare a state of emergency. The quake hit Davao del Sur at around 2:11 p.m. on Sunday.
As recorded by Phivolcs, there were several aftershocks that happened at 2:32 PM, 2:52 PM, 02:58 PM, 3:09 PM, 3:23 PM, 3:33 PM and 3:39 PM.
Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo stated that the President and his daughter, Kitty, were at home during the tremors. But, he emphasized that they were “okay”.
According to an article from ABS-CBN, Panelo said that Duterte’s partner, Honeylet Avanceña was on her way home when the quake hit. Although, he said that she was “unhurt”.
Sadly, a majority of the residents in Davao del Sur suffered major losses because of the quake. Today, the death toll following the earthquake rose to three as of writing this article.
Meanwhile, there are still people missing after the three-story Southern Trade grocery fell due to the intense shaking. Also, the Saint Michael Parish church sustained damages as well.
Following this, as of 7:00 a.m., PHILVOCS recorded a whopping 479 aftershocks. With this, the DOST Undersecretary Renato Solidum advised the public to prepare for more aftershocks within 24 hours or even the week.
