Roxette Singer Marie Fredriksson Dies After Battling Cancer for 17 Years

The Swedish pop rock duo Roxette’s singer Marie Fredriksson has already passed away at the age of 61 after a long battle with cancer.

Roxette is one of the most popular music icons in the late 1980s after releasing their breakthrough album Look Sharp. The duo consisting of Marie Fredriksson and Per Gessle earned instant popularity worldwide because of their music in the 1990s.

The group popularized the hit songs such as “The Look”, “Listen to Your Heart”, “It Must Have Been Love”, and “Joyride”. The musical duo also received numerous awards and recognitions because of their songs “It Must Have Been Love” and “Listen to Your Heart”.

On Monday (December 9, 2019), Roxette singer Marie Fredriksson has already died at the age of 61 years old after fighting cancer for 17 years. The singer initially suffered a seizure in her bathroom resulting in a cracked skull in September 2002.

In 2002 also, Fredriksson was diagnosed with a brain tumor but she was able to survive although she is experiencing health problems due to radiation therapy. She also lost the vision in her right eye.

Eventually, the female vocalist was able to return to public life and successfully toured again with Roxette from 2008 to 2016.

Fredriksson’s family also expressed their grief after losing the artist stating “It is with great sadness that we have to announce that one of our biggest and most beloved artists is gone.”

Per Gessle also gave a touching message for his former bandmate saying “Things will never be the same.”
