Raissa Robles recently made posts on Twitter criticizing the opening ceremony of the 30th Southeast Asian Games, which happened on Saturday night (December 30).

One of her comments were addressed directly at Apl, who happened to be one of the performers of the opening ceremony.

According to her, Apl is not Filipino but an American. She also said that his performance of the Pinoy pop song Kay Ganda ng Lahing Pilipino is not native and copied elements from Amerika.

Ginaya sa Amerika. Gaya ng ballet, banyaga pero nilagyan ng mga Pinoy elements. I’ve seen very good ballet dances w Phil. native dance movements,”

According to KAMI, a netizen named VJ Alipon echoed what Robles said against the American-Filipino rapper, further saying that he is disheartened that one person went way too low because of politics. He then told Apl that he is still a Filipino in their town.

“According to @raissawriter you’re not Pinoy. Ang bigat sa dibdib na lulubog ng ganitong kababa ang isang tao ng dahil lang sa pulitika. Yaan mo na. Sa bayan naman’y Pinoy ka pa rin! Maybe nxt time pag LP na uli ang nakaupo, Pinoy ka na uli para sa kanila,”

Based on the report, Apl reacted to Alipon’s comment with a laughing emoji. He then addressed Robles’ comment on another netizen’s Tweet. This is what he said:

“Let the haters continue to hate, we’re here as a country to motivate and elevate,”

Apl is known one of the members in an American hip hop group called The Black Eyed Peas.
