ABS-CBN FRANCHISE – The Congress admitted that it cannot anymore discuss the issue surround the franchise of the Kapamilya network until the end of year 2019.

Recently, the expiry of the franchise of ABS-CBN has become one of the talks again after President Rodrigo Roa Duterte unleashed new warnings. The President has always been vocal that, if he has his ways, he won’t allow the renewal of the network’s franchise.

The said franchise is set to expire this March 2020. Pres. Duterte accused the network of taking his money but not showing his advertisement on national TV during the campaign period for Election 2016.

According to the President, it was not just him whose ads were not shown on TV. He named former Senator Francis “Chiz” Escudero as also one of those whose ads were not shown on TV.

Recently, Pres. Rodrigo Roa Duterte gave a message to ABS-CBN network regarding the issue. He apologized and said that they are out. According to him, there are Kapamilya executives who were begging for the renewal but the President seems to be really firm on his stand.

Based on a report on Pep, citing The Philippine Star, the Congress cannot anymore discuss the ABS-CBN franchise issue until the end of 2019. That is what House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano said.

According to the House Speaker, the management of ABS-CBN knows that they prioritized the budgets and the revenue bills. He assured that there is more than enough time to tackle it next year and that they would be fair.

Citing CNN Philippines, based on the report, House Committee on Legislative Franchises Chairman Franz Alvarez said that the issue surrounding the franchise of the Kapamilya network is not really part of their calendar before the Christmas break on December 20.
