Recently, a farmer was shocked after he dug up a giant white ube in Tuba, Benguet. Homer Menzi shared the interesting photo on social media.
Based on a report from ABS-CBN, the farmer was dubbed as “ube man” after he discovered the massive ube in their fields. He dug up a giant ube weighing 28 kilograms and 6-foot high.
“Dati naming tinaniman ito pero ngayon lang ulit nahukay kasi nagpunta kaming Agoo kaya ngayon lang namin nakita, kaya medyo malaki-laki,” said Menzi.
According to the report, Homer Menzi immediately posted the photos on social media to share the amazing news. Ube Man’s cousin Jayson Pacio said they also dug up a giant ube before that weighs 13 kilogram.
“Noong una kasi may ganin din kaso 13 kilos lang. Natutuwa kami kasi may ganun kalaking ube, naaliw lang na i-post ito,” said Pacio.
Based on the report, an agricultural technologist in Tuba, Michelle Saingan, said Menzi’s ube is different from the others. It usually shrinks due to the overstay in the land, but instead, it grew even larger.
“The ube kasi, the longer na nagse-stay siya sa lupa nagshi-shrink siya, liliit or mayroon din ‘yung tinatawag na palayon o mabubulok ‘yun sa ilalim ng lupa. Kaya ‘yung [ube ni Menzi] siguro isa-subject natin siya for further study,” she said.
The farmer sold his giant white ube to the Good Shepherd, one of the most popular delicacy store in Baguio.
