New Facebook Bug Found That Accesses Your Camera
FACEBOOK BUG – Facebook stated that there is a bug that unintentionally accesses an iPhone user’s camera while scrolling through the news feed.
The bug was noticed by Joshua Maddux. He is the owner of a web design firm named 95visual.
Reports say that the bug is only seen on iPhone units and does not have an effect on Android devices. Although, Facebook said that the bug would be fixed sometime today.
Maddux went to Twitter to report his newfound bug. He posted a video that showed his phone’s camera pointed at the carpet while he was scrolling his feed.
Maddux wrote an email to CNN that stated that he thought he opened his camera by accident. He added that as he closed a video on Facebook, he got a glimpse of the camera on the left side.
With this Jerry Gamblin, a principal security engineer at Kenna Security tried and was successful to replicate the bug. However, she said that there is no evidence that suggests data is being sent to Facebook.
As per the report, the social media platform made a comment that the bug was unintentionally introduced. They also promised a fix for the bug as soon as possible.
“We have seen no evidence of photos or videos being uploaded due to this bug. We’re submitting the fix for this to Apple today“, said a Facebook spokesman.
Till the bug is fixed, those concerned about their privacy was recommended by Gamblin to revoke camera access for the FB app.
Recently, Facebook has been at the forefront of scandal after scandal. One of the most notable of these is the 2018 Cambridge Analytica Scandal.
This was when Facebook exposed 87 million users’ information to the political analysis firm that was hired by Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.
