Back in July, Facebook’s Community Standards was updated. One of those updated was the sexual solicitation section.

They planned to ban these sexually suggestive elements in a bid to control sexual solicitation. This includes sexual emojis or emoji strings.

However, the new community standards did not mention the emojis included in the ban. But, the most popular ones like eggplants and peaches may fall into the category.

It’s pretty obvious what the string of emojis refers to even without context. They are mostly very suggestive and erotically-charged.

In a statement, Facebook said:
People use Facebook to discuss and draw attention to sexual violence and exploitation. We recognize the importance of and want to allow for this discussion.”

They added that they draw the line when it comes to content that facilitates or encourages sexual encounters between adults. Adding to this, they also clarified that the update isn’t only limited to emoji use.

The company added that they will only remove content from Facebook or Instagram if it falls under a certain category. They said that if there is a sexual emoji paired with a sexual context, content would be removed.

According to adult industry news site XBIZ (NSFW), a user’s account can be flagged or removed if any of its content falls under the vague criteria Facebook lays out in its Community Standards.

Facebook also emphasizes that its new initiative is aimed at targeting nudity and all sexual conversation of any kind.

Based on an article from Android Authority, the only exception to the new policy is when content is drawing attention to sexual violence and exploitation.
