Robredo was recently appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as the drug czar. Robredo accepted Duterte’s appointment and is now leading the fight against illegal drugs.

The Vice President said that because of the scope of responsibilities of ICAD, their P15 million funds would not be enough. She then stated that ICAD’s member agencies asked funds for their new program.

The Philippine Anti-Illegal Drug Strategy (PADS) program has a goal of boosting the government’s anti-narcotics campaign.

Based on an article by Manila Bulletin, PADS was created by the Dangerous Drug Board (DBB). Duterte had also institutionalized PADS via Executive Order 66.

But, Robredo voiced concerns that agencies like the Department of Health (DOH) and Department of Education (DepEd) still have lots of work when it comes to rehabilitation and prevention of illegal drugs.

Nag-present ng programa iyong DOH. Marami na silang nagawa pero talagang marami pang kulang“, said the Vice President. She also added that the programs for preventive education is lacking.

The drug czar said that she wants to focus on that area most. She also took note of how the government failed to reach its target of building one rehabilitation center per province.

“Now we only have one per region. These are not enough. Not all regions have a rehabilitation center, there are two that have none”, Robredo said.
