In a previous article, we learned that VP Leni Robredo accepted the position as drug czar given by President Rodrigo Duterte. However, she wanted to do things differently.

As the new co-chairperson of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD), Robredo wanted to have zero killings. She stated that killings are outside the rule of law.

But, she said that her war on illegal drugs will push through with the same vigor, intensity, and strength. She added that her committee should have ample time and resources to go after the big fish.

“But the killings, whether big-time or small fry, that is not part of the deal”, the Vice President said. Adding to this, she said that she would hold her first meeting with ICAD this afternoon.

Based on a report from Philstar, those invited were officials from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA), Philippine National Police, DILG, and NBI.

During the meeting, the Vice President is expected to be briefed by the PDEA director Aaron Aquino. Although, the director previously scoffed at her ability to lead the drug war.

However, Robredo stated that she was not affected by Aquino’s previous statements. “I’m not affected, I don’t take their criticism personally“, said Robredo.

As a human rights lawyer, Robredo wanted to emphasize that the success of her campaign does not depend on the number of drug personalities slain. Instead, it will be based on the number of lives improved.
