Magnitude 4.5 Earthquake Hits Cotabato Again on Saturday (November 2), Phivolcs Says

EARTHQUAKE ALERT – The state seismology agency Phivolcs reported that a magnitude 4.5 earthquake jolts the province of Cotabato.

On Saturday (November 2, 2019), the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology recorded a 4.5-magnitude earthquake in Cotabato around 2:38 am. The agency explained that it was still a part of the series of temblors that shook Mindanao.

The moderately strong quake has been located at 23 kilometers southeast of Tulunan town, Cotabato, the same spot wherein the magnitude 6.3 quake struck last October 16. The tremor is tectonic in origin and has a depth of 6 kilometers southeast of Tulunan.

Kidapawan City and North Cotabato province felt an Intensity V tremor while Tupi, South Cotabato and Alabel, Sarangani experienced an Intensity 1 quake. Series mild quakes were recorded after the incident.

However, the volcanology agency said that no aftershocks are expected and no further damage has been reported as of this writing.

Earlier this week, the series of powerful tremors that struck Cotabato and parts of Mindanao killed at least 17 people and injured over 327 others.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) the quake damaged around 3,365 infrastructures and displaced over 30,000 people.
