They added that the death toll could still increase because of the unreported fatalities caused by the quake. Three of the fatalities were from the Davao region.

The other 13 recorded fatalities were from the areas of Central Mindanao along with 372 injured. There were also 14 that were injured from Central Mindanao and BARRM.

Based on reports from Philstar, there were 6,009 families or 30,045 individuals that were directly affected by the quakes. Adding to this, more than 1,000 families have lost their homes.

Authorities have stated that the foundations of the building hit by the quake have already been weakened. These include Eva’s Hotel and several other buildings.

According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), over 2,000 aftershocks were recorded within 3 days. There was also a magnitude 5 quake in Cotabato during All Saint’s Day.

With the massive quakes jolting Mindanao, people were afraid of a possible tsunami. However, Philvocs have dispelled the possibility.

This was because the quake that hit Mindanao was an “in-land” quake. However, they noted that there may be more possible aftershocks.
