North Cotabato Hit by Earthquake with 5.2 Magnitude

EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 5.2 magnitude quake in North Cotabato, October 17, 2019.

Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.

One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.

Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.

Phivolcs recorded a 5.6 magnitude quake in Makilala, North Cotabato at around 8 pm on July 9. It was followed by several aftershocks.

Recently, another quake has hit a part of North Cotabato. At 02:18 pm today, October 17, 2019, Tulunan was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 5.2.

Earthquake

According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of North Cotabato was located at 06.80°North, 124.83°East – 006 km South 02° East of Tulunan. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 012 kilometers.

Phivolcs stated in its bulletin that damages and as well as aftershocks are expected from the quake. Here is a list of the instrumental intensities felt in certain area(s):
