Elderly Woman Sells Food To Earn Money for Stray Dogs & Cats
An elderly woman sells food during the day and spends her night taking care of over 100 stray dogs and cats abandoned by their owners
An old food vendor identified as Huang Xiuying is spending her entire day selling rice and rice viands at Ayer Hitam in Johor, Malaysia to earn money for her daily expenses. She usually opens her shop early in the morning.
After working tirelessly at her chicken and rice stall, she usually walk for about 15 minutes going to the shelter to personally take care of over 100 cats and dogs she picked up from the animal shelter and some of them had been left by the owners.
Xiuying started to take care of the stray animals after her beloved dogs died after struck by a car. However, the car driver didn’t even bother to stop and check the dog, so she decided take stray animals under her care.
“Seeing stray dogs often remind me of my own dogs. So I wound up bringing home one stray dog after another. Some were brought in from the Penang City Hall, others from people who brought them to me,” Xiuying said.
The lady vendor also spends a lot of money to take care of those animals such as renting a shelter, foods, and paying workers for them. Xiuying spend RM450 ($108) for renting shelter and RM 1,500 ($360) for workers’ salary.
