INDANAN, SULU – Last week, a Philippine Army detachment in Indanan, Sulu was targeted by another suicide bomber, which recently was confirmed to be a woman through DNA tests.

The suicide bomber tried to enter the military detachment where the Philippine Army’s 35th Infantry Battalion was stationed. This was according to spokesman of the Sulu Joint Task Force, Lt. Col. Gerard Monfort.

The attack was then speculated by the Military to be perpetrated by a woman. However, findings and evidence were still unclear until recently.

Police Col. Elimer Catabay said that of the 20 specimens found at the crime scene, 13 was revealed to be similar to a female DNA Profile. Catabay is the deputy director for operations of PNP Crime Laboratory Group.

He also stated that the tissue samples were examined in their DNA laboratory in Davao. Although, they still could not determine if the suspect was a Foreigner or a Filipino.

Catabay then said that they could find out the answer if they are given a standard for comparison. However, for the specimen that they have right now, they cannot, he added.

According to ABS-CBN, no one has yet to come forward to corroborate the identity of the suspect. The police had also cross-referenced the DNA samples in their data-base but to no avail.

He then stated that they would ask for help from Interpol to crossmatch the DNA. This would mean a bigger database to help determine if the suspect was foreigner or not.
