Vice President Robredo Says GCTA Inquiry Should Focus On Implementation
Maria Leonor Robredo – Vice President Leni Robredo stated that the Senate probe into the released heinous crimes convicts under GCTA, should focus on the implementation.
Robredo made the statements right when the there were reports that the individuals who crafted the law’s IRR were blamed for the controversy. The individuals being detained Sen. Leila Delima, and former secretary Mar Roxas.
During an interview, Senator “Bato” Dela Rosa stated that the law was ambiguous and unclear. Furthermore, the senator added that there is no harmony between sections one and three in the GCTA law.
According to Dela Rosa, section 1 stated that heinous crime convicts are not eligible for the GCTA. However, section 3 stated that every convict is eligible to benefit from the law.
Likewise, Robredo stated in an interview that the question should be why the implementation of the GCTA was a mess. She then asked if this was because of the law itself, or the implementation of the law?
Vice President Robredo was at the Senate to justify the 2020 budget for the Office of the Vice President (OVP). This amounted to more than P673 million.
Robredo’s defense of the budget went smoothly. Afterwards the Senate Committee on Finance approved the OVP’s budget.
According to an article by the Manila Times, Robredo had took note of the previous Senate Blue Ribbon Investigation. She noted that the past inquiry led to a handful of money-making schemes in New Bilibid Prison.
She then stated that she hoped that the hearing would focus on the corruption inside Bilibid and BuCor. She added that if the investigation is shifted, it may focus on who made the IRR.
Recently, de Lima stated that Gordon insinuated that the IRR was intentionally made confusing. This would allow drug lords inside NBP to benefit from it.
Senators have contradicted claims that they are picking on detained Sen. Leila de Lima. Senator Lacson also stated that the investigation never meant to dig up cases against De Lima.
