Obudsman Suspends 27 Bureau of Corrections Execs Over Release of Heinous Crime Convicts Under GCTA

SAMUEL MARITES – Ombudsman Marites has suspended 27 officials and staff of the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) for the release of heinous crimes convicts under the Good Conduct Time Allowance law.

The office of the Ombudsman suspended the officials for 6 months without pay. This was because of gross misconduct and gross neglect of duty regarding the GCTA controversy.

According to the order signed by Marites, the BuCor officials allowed the questionable release of the convicts. This was a violation of the Revised Penal Code.

Based on an article by GMA, the Ombudsman stated their office found the evidence from testimonies and public documents were strong. Among these witnesses was Yolanda Camilon who earlier testified against BuCor.

The suspended officials included Ramoncito Roque and Belinda Bansil. Roque was BuCor’s Document’s chief while Bansil was the Corrections Senior Inspector.

Both Roque and Bansil were previously tagged in testimonies by witnesses like Camilon in previous hearings. During the continuation of the Senate hearing, Godfrey Gamboa, Camilon’s husband testified against them.

Gamboa stated that he and his wife dealth with both had transcations with Roque and Bansil for his early release. He added that they were told the release would be in March but that never happened.
