PROVINCES OF BICOL REGION – In this topic, we will now discuss the six provinces of Bicol Region or Region V.

Also known as Kabikulan or Bicolandia and known historically as Ibalong in the Spanish colonization period, it is one of the provinces in Luzon, one of the main three island groups in the Philippines.

The region has a population of more than 5 million people, as of 2015. It is assigned as Region V and its regional center is Legazpi, Albay.

Here are the following six provinces:

  • Albay (Capital: Legazpi)
    • Probinsya kan Albay is home to the Mt. Mayon, one of the well-known volcanoes in the world due to its perfectly-shaped cone
  • Camarines Norte (Capital: Daet)
    • Amihanan na Camarines is the northern part of the former Camarines province.
  • Camarines Sur (Capital: Pili)
    • Habagatan na Camarines is the southern part of the former Camarines province and is home of Lake Buhi where the Sinarapan, a small fish, can be found.
  • Catanduanes (Capital: Virac)
    • Known as the Happy Island, Land of the Howling Winds, and the Isle of the Eastern Seas, it is an island province.
  • Masbate (Capital: Masbate)
    • Probinsya san Masbate is a province located between two island groups: Luzon and Visayas.
  • Sorsogon (Capital: Sorsogon)
    • Probinsya kan Sorsogon is the southernmost province in Luzon
