Senate Blue Ribbon Committee Set To Release GCTA For Sale Report
Good Conduct Time Allowance (GCTA) – The GCTA controversy is nearing its conclusion as the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee is set to release their initial findings on the case.
The report is on the ongoing investigation of the Bureau of Correction‘s (BuCor) release of heinous crimes convicts under GCTA. Through the GCTA, over 1900 convicts of heinous crimes were released.
Sen. Richard Gordon stated that it may be possible to recover erased text messages and call logs from two BuCor officials linked to corruption. This could help zero in on the officials connected to the GCTA controversy.
According to Philstar, the Senator stated that they hoped to have a partial report this week. Afterwards, they could then report it out to the committee.
The investigation is expected to continue on Thursday. Meanwhile lawmakers and other bodies is set to amend Republic Act 10592 or the GCTA law.
In a separate statement, Gordon commented on the GCTA law controversy. He said that the law provided an opportunity for the python to enter the poultry park and kill everything inside.
Along with this, Sen Panfilo Lacson has stated that the investigation revealed many loop holes in the law. He also said that it has exposed the weaknesses in the prison system which needs to be addressed urgently.
Other than amendments to the law, Lacson also had another recommendation. He stated that the government needs to invest in technology to minimize human intervention when managing prisons.
With this he then pointed out reports from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency. The reports stated that 80 percent of drug trafficking is directly from New Bilibid Prison.
