LENI ROBREDO – Vice President Leni Robredo’s statement against President Duterte amidst the West Philippine Sea dispute was countered by presidential spokesperson Panelo on Friday.

Salvador Panelo, the presidential spokesperson clarified Duterte‘s statement on the West Philippine Sea Dispute. He stated that Duterte meant that he would focus on exploring things that benefited the people.

This was in lieu of Duterte’s statement that he would set aside the arbitral ruling on West Philippine Sea. The statement was also in line with the admins plan to push ahead with the China exploration deal.

Panelo stated that in spite of the territorial conflict with China, we should forge and strengthen our foreign relations. He added that this would provide benefits to our countries.

He then said that this included the joint exploration of the natural resources on the West Philippine Sea. Afterwards he said that our issue with China cannot be the sum total of our relationship.

According to GMA, Panelo also slammed Robredo’s remarks. He stated that this was the Vice President’s way to nitpick the President.

He also added that Robredo may have been carried away by their nitpicking. Panelo then said that the habitual engagements of Duterte’s detractors are useless and unproductive.

Panelo said that the Vice President should be more cautious in issuing statements. He added that she should rely more on her instincts as a lawyer and a protective mother.

He then said that Vice President Robredo should comprehend the Philippines’ intricate relationship with China. This was in lieu of the issue on territory.
