All athletes are aware that injuries are always part of sports. That’s the reason why they have their coaches or proper gears to reduce injuries.
When they felt something wrong in their body, they immediately contact their doctors to have it check of fixed. Most of the common injuries include concussions, strain, or bone fractures.
Recently, there was an Australian girl named Britney Thomas who has been practicing to become a professional cricket player. Based on a report from LadBible, the young athlete who was 17 at that time, injured her thumb while playing her sport in Hong Kong.
She took a simple visit to the hospital for a check-up. Her trip to a doctor showed that she fractured her thumb. So she went to Latrobe Regional Hospital for an operation
According to the report, before the operation, the medical team put a device that restricts blood pressure. The girl was told that they remove it when the surgery was done.
After the operation, Thomas was sent home then after five days, she realized something wasn’t right in her hands. She felt a lot of pain when the medics removed the cast. It turned out that the device was not removed after the surgery.
Her mother, Lean Keating, said: “They pulled the plaster off and it was very dark and looked dead… the skin was all yucky. I was mortified, it was horrible”
Based on the report, it was too late to save her thumb because the blood on her thumb had been restricted for so long. The young cricket player said: “They took me into the emergency and they were like, ‘You’re probably going to lose your thumb… I was in so much disbelief and I was like, ‘What’s going to happen to me? What’s going to happen to my cricket?”
Thomas’ lawyer said the error is ‘unacceptable’ while the CEO of the hospital told the media: “I felt sick in my stomach. We thought we had robust procedures and policies in place to ensure we have a very safe environment.” Their investigation is underway.
