Manhunt For Released Convicts Under GCTA To Be Lead By PNP-CIDG
CIDG – The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group was ordered by the Philippine National Police (PNP) to lead the manhunt for the 1900 plus heinous crimes convicts released under the Good Conduct Time Allowance Law.
PNP chief General Oscar Albayalde said that trackers teams will be deployed in various police regional offices to locate the convicts who choose not to surrender. The convicts would be treated as fugitives if they opt not to follow President Duterte’s order.
The PNP chief gave the released convicts a warning to surrender rather than waiting for authorities to seize them through warrantless arrests. He stressed that authorities would use force without hesitation should they resist.
Albayalde said that the convicts should voluntarily surrender before the 15-day grace period is over. He also advised civilians to report any information that would help result in the convicts arrest.
The convicts were then urged by the PNP to turn themselves in before arguing about the legality of Dutertes directives in court. Justice Sec. Menardo Guevarra said there were already 15 convicts that have surrendered after Duterte’s order.
The Armed Forces Of The Philippines had also joined in on the manhunt. They would help provide intelligence and manpower to assist with the recapture of the released convicts.
Along with this, the Department of Justice (DOJ) had also asked the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) for help. This would further accelerate the recapture of the released convicts.
Senator Panfilo Lacson voiced his concern regarding the convicts trying to leave the country. He said that those convicts should be prioritized.
Lacson then asked Justice Secretary Gueverra if he had put the released convicts on the Immigration Look-Out Bulletin. According to this article by Philstar, Gueverra gave the Senator assurance that the list was already sent to the Bureau of Immigration.
