Judge Handling Then-Mayor Sanchez’s Case Allegedly Bribed Worth P30-Million, Panelo Reacts

PANELO – Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo reacted to the alleged P30-million bribery to the judge that handled the case of former Calauan Mayor Antonio Sanchez.

Currently, one of the widely-talked about issue is the case of former Calauan Mayor Antonio Sanchez. The looming release of former Mayor Sanchez sparked reactions from the people.

The former mayor of Calauan was charged over the death of two(2) University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB) students. They were Eileen Sarmenta and Allan Gomez.

Sarmenta was given as “gift” by the men of Sanchez to the former Calauan Mayor. After she was used not only by the former politician but as well as his men, she was put to death. Gomez also faced his demise.

The Court found former Calauan Mayor Antonio Sanchez guilty over the accusations against him. He was sentenced to seven(7) counts of reclusion perpetua.

The recent looming release of the former Mayor elicited disapproval from the public. President Rodrigo Roa Duterte also showed a red light regarding the issue.

Recently, in an interview with ABS-CBN News, the Judge who handled the case of former Mayor Antonio Sanchez claimed that she was bribed. She was allegedly offered P30-million.

According to former Pasig Regional Trial Court Judge Harriett Demetriou, a sculptor came to her for the offer. The Judge allegedly did not accept the offer.

To this, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo spoke based on a report on GMA News. The now-Presidential Spokesman was the legal counsel of former Mayor Antonio Sanchez during the hearing of the charges against him.

Speaking to CNN Philippines, Panelo denied hearing about the bribery to the Judge handling the case of former Mayor Sanchez. “Hindi ko narinig. No, wala,” he said.

Currently, the public is pushing against the release of the former Calauan Mayor. The authorities have also given hints that he may not qualify for early release due to his violations.

  1. Judge Harriett Demetriou’s character is one worthy of emulation. No amount of money must poison the mind if that money comes from a demon like Antonio Sanchez. This disciple of Satan must rot in jail.
