Former Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Gina Lopez died on Monday, August 19 but a lifestyle magazine reported her “death” on Friday, August 16.
Aside from serving the government, Gina was also the head of ABS-CBN Foundation. Through these endeavors, she was able to push her advocacy which concentrates in preserving the environment.
When news about her death due to multiple organ failure surfaced on Monday, many people expressed their sadness for losing someone as dedicated as her. The social media became a venue where condolences rained. Those who had a chance to work and be with her reminisced the happy memories they had together, just like celebrity vlogger Erwan Heussaff.
However, on Friday, netizens were already shocked when news about the “death” of Gina Lopez surfaced. A report about this was published in Town and Country, a lifestyle magazine. Apparently, the article was took down immediately but several netizens have read it.
On that same day, the ABS-CBN Foundation released a statement saying “No. Gina Lopez is still alive. Not true. The official statement will come from us,” based on the report from GMA News.
That said news created confusion in the minds of netizens, especially that the magazine that published it immediately deleted the article. Some asked for verifications and got contended when the foundation that she was leading denied it.
