According to PhilStar, EDSA traffic head Bong Nebrija warned the public, especially motorists and commuters, to brace themselves as traffic will be way heavier than usual. Nebrija also said that the agency sees more vehicles on the streets especially on the last quarter of the year.

Nebrija said in a forum that the capital faces one week of rain and holiday is still far away, though, the number of vehicles swarming the streets gradually increases, which could possibly lead to heavy traffic.

The agency spokesperson Celine Pialago said that at about 402K vehicles travel to EDSA every day. This is twice than the road’s carrying capacity of 200K vehicles every day.

As per the report, Pialago cpnfirmed that they can no longer ensure that they will be able to reduce traffic during the last quarter this year.

Meanwhile, Bayani Fernando, Marikina Representative and House Deputy Minority Leader, puhed for the return of the organized bus route system that was imposed back when he was MMDA chairman.

Fernando said that they implemented the system way back in 2006 and it was an effective strategy despite having a downside, further stressing that there is no better alternative than this. The OBR system was shut down after three months due to unruly drivers and bribery.

The OBR system involves the agency assigning two bus lanes on EDSA called A and B, with bust stops to where waiting individuals are high.

The system also serves as a restraint to both the commuters and drivers since the drivers has to pick up the passengers only at the assigned gates. They also have to unload and load for a few seconds.

What do you think? How will you react to this? Let us know more about it.
