Malacañang Palace Release Statement To Defecating Incident in Boracay
Earlier this week, the viral video of a Chinese tourist who allegedly let her child poop near the shoreline of the popular tourist destination garnered negative reactions from the social media users and Filipino citizens.
In the video, the Chinese woman is washing the child’s buttocks on the beach while her colleague was reportedly burying the kid’s soiled diaper. After a few moments, the foreigner act as nothing happened.
The government decided to cordoned and temporarily close a certain portion of Boracay Island where the incident happened for a cleanup. The authorities aim to clean and keep the island from any forms of pollution.
On Thursday (August 15, 2019), Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo condemned the defecating incident happened in the country’s tourist spot. Panelo described the incident as an offensive act.
Panelo also urged both foreign and local tourists to comply with the rules and regulations being implemented on the island.
“It’s offensive to the sight. It’s not a good scene. They have to follow rules and that obviously is a violation, so they will be subject to administrative or rather suits,” Panelo said.
Meanwhile, the Boracay Inter-Agency Rehabilitation Management Group is calling the public to maintain the cleanliness of the island after President Duterte ordered the closure of Boracay for six months last year to give way for rehabilitation.
