Manny Pacquiao Reacts To Senator Sotto’s Appeal To Keep Jesus out of Death Penalty Debates
Senator Manny Pacquiao reacted to the statement of Senate President Vicente Sotto to leave Jesus Christ out of death penalty debates.
On Wednesday (August 7, 2019), Senator Vicente Sotto appealed to keep Jesus Christ out of the debates regarding the proposed reimposition of the death penalty after Manny Pacquiao delivered his privilege speech.
Sotto explained that the Bible is a good source of insights but it would not be fair to use passages written in the scripture regarding the revival of the death penalty.
The lawmaker explained that the death penalty is not the best solution to address the issue of illegal drugs but a successful demand reduction.
Recently, the Filipino boxing champion turned Senator agrees with Sotto to leave out Jesus of death penalty debates.
Pacquiao made his statement after Senate Minority Leader Frankin Drilon interpellated his privilege speech.
“Ibahin natin ‘yung topic o usapin pagdating sa death penalty na hindi madrag ‘yung pangalan ng ating Panginoong Hesukristo,” Pacquiao said.
However, Pacquiao said that the public must trust the government’s decision to reform the judiciary, which is expected to undergo an extensive discussion.
