Leni Robredo Says Declaring a Martial Law Won’t Solve Violence In Negros

LENI ROBREDO – Vice president Leni Robredo said martial law won’t solve the violence in Negros Island.

A martial law involves the suspension of the country’s law but it will be administered by the country’s military forces. This happens when a certain area couldn’t control its public order and safety due to crimes or terrorism.

On May 2017, Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte declared martial law in Mindanao since some of its regions remain ‘dangerous.’

A week ago, lots of people were slain by rebels in Negros Island including the four policemen.

The Malacañang Palace previously said the 74-year-old chief executive may also declare martial law in the region due to the killings.

In a previous article, 2 mayors and the army in Visayas said they will support the president decision of ever he demands to. They are Mayor Jose Cardenas, Mayor Carlo Jorge Joan Reyes, and Chief Maj. Gen. Dinoh Dolina.

However, vice president Leni Robredo reacted on the plan to set a martial law on Negros Oriental.

Based on a report from CNN Philippines, Leni Robredo said a martial law won’t solve the issue in Negros Island. She said the best way to solve the issue is finding all the culprit.

“Iyong pinaka-solusyon sana, mahanap sino ba iyong behind dito sa mga patayan na ito. At mahanapan ng agarang solusyon kasi ang dami nang nabiktima,” she said.

According to the report, Leni Robredo also talked about the martial law the president declared in Mindanao. She said it did not change anything and asked if it would really stop the terrorism in Negros.

“Ang pinaka tanong: Martial law ba iyong solusyon? Kasi nag-martial law sa Mindanao, mahigit isang taon na mula… Dalawa na nga yata mula 2017, pero hindi naman na-prevent iyong mga karahasan. Saka hindi lang karahasan. May mga pambobomba, mayroon pang suicide bombers. So paano mo ma-e-ensure na ito iyong solusyon sa kaguluhan sa Negros?” she said.

We can all hope that these leaders would act fast before the terrorists attack more villages and end more lives.
