Most of the time, job application, school entrance procedures, and scholarship grants processes include interviews. It is one way for a company, school, or institution to get to know the person further.

The common topics during interviews are educational and family backgrounds, skills, and interests. Some interviewers also ask certain questions to assess the determination of the application to get the job.

However, although sometimes it is just like a conversational type, interviews should never be taken for granted. It is part of the hiring process and personal impressions may make great weight.

Do’s

  • Turn off your mobile phone upon entering the building where you will have the interview.
  • Be polite in dealing with people like the receptionists, the elevator operators, and the staff.
  • Shake hands with the interviewers and introduce yourself politely.
  • Dress up appropriately and make sure there would be no wardrobe malfunctions during the interview.
  • Smile.
  • Sit up straight and plant your feet in the floor when seating.
  • Thank the interviewers and everyone that assisted you after the interview.
  • Send some thank you messages to each of the interviewers for their time within 24-48 hours since the interview session.

Don’ts

  • Do not sit in a very relaxed way as it can show disrespect.
  • Do not answer your phone when you forgot to turn it off and it rings during the interview. Based on the article, it is best to turn it off and apologized to the interviewers.
  • Do not sit right away upon entering the room. Stand behind the chair or politely ask the interviewer where you must sit.
  • Do not place your things on the interview table. Have it under your chair or on the chair beside you.
  • Do not put your both hands on your lap. Have one of them on the desk of the chair or on the table.
