Female Customer Gets HIV After Manicure

A 22-year-old female customer in Brazil was diagnosed with HIV after getting a manicure using shared equipment, which probably transmitted the virus.

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus is a life-threatening disease that damages the immune system and hindering the body to fight diseases.

HIV can be transmitted via intercourse, blood transfusions, breastfeeding, and also by sharing needles or other equipment.

Recently, a Brazilian woman acquired a Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) after getting a manicure.

According to the reports, the woman was diagnosed with advanced HIV she acquired around 10 years ago.

The medical experts conduct an investigation and found out that the HIV patients shared manicure equipment with her cousin a few years ago who was later found to be HIV-positive.

“Further genetic analysis of the viruses from both patients suggested it came from a common ancestor, indicating the possibility HIV was transmitted through the manicure instruments,” according to the report.

Los Alamos National Laboratory, USA, HIV Sequence Database Dr. Brian Foley explained that HIV could not be transmitted by casual contacts such as sharing eating utensils or water glass.
