Strong Quake in North Cotabato Followed by Declaration of Class Suspension Today (July 10)
CLASS SUSPENSION – Following the 5.6 magnitude earthquake in North Cotabato, several areas declared a cancellation of classes today, July 10.
North Cotabato was recently hit a series of earthquakes. Based on the bulletins released by the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the strong earthquake was 5.6 magnitude.
The strong quake had a depth of 010 kilometers. It struck at 08:36 pm last night. It was located 06.84°North, 125.03°East – 015 km South 27° West of Makilala and was tectonic in origin.
Up to intensity V was recorded to have been felt in several areas. Makilala in North Cotabato, Koronadal City, Kidapawan City, and Santa Cruz, Davao del Sur were among those that felt Intensity V.
The 5.6 magnitude quake was followed by several aftershocks including two(2) 4.8 magnitude quakes jolting the same area.
Following the 5.6 magnitude earthquake, some areas in North Cotabato declared a class suspension today, July 10, based on a report on ABS-CBN News.
The classes in all levels in the following areas are cancelled today:
- Kidapawan City, North Cotabato
- Makilala, North Cotabato
According to the report, Makilala Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer Sonny Fontanilla expressed that classes are suspended for the inspection of the buildings.
