North Cotabato Hit by Earthquake with 4.9 Magnitude Today

EARTHQUAKE – The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded a 4.9 magnitude quake in North Cotabato today, July 10, 2019.

Most of the time, quakes hit with no prior signs. Recently, several places in and out of the Philippines were shaken by quakes of different magnitudes.

One of the strong quakes recorded by Phivolcs is the 7.1 magnitude quake in Davao Oriental. There were expected aftershocks due to the said quake and a tsunami advisory was released.

Previously, in April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking were felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.

Yesterday, Phivolcs recorded a 5.6 magnitude quake in Makilala, North Cotabato at around 8 pm. It was followed by several aftershocks.

Recently, a quake has hit again a part of North Cotabato. At 08:56 am today, July 10, 2019, North Cotabato was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.9.

According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of North Cotabato was located at 06.79°North, 125.08°East – 011 km North 58° East of Makilala. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 021 kilometers.

Intensity I was felt in Abel, Sarangani and Cagayan de Oro City while Tupi, South Cotabato felt Intensity II. Kidapawan City felt Intensity V.

According to Phivolcs, there are no expected damages caused by the quake and as well as aftershocks.
