DOH Says 40 Filipinos Become Infected W/ HIV Daily
DOH – The Department of Health (DOH) said almost 40 Filipinos become infected with HIV every day.
The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a sexually transmitted infection. Its virus could harm or possibly kill a person. It affects the immune system of a person by eliminating the white blood cells.
If a person only has a few white blood cells in their body, they will be prone to infections and conditions that could lead to death.
The number one symptom of the virus is a fever. Other symptoms may include rapid weight loss, persistent diarrhea, vomiting, rashes, and nausea.
In a previous article, the Department of Health (DOH) exposed the alarming number of HIV case in the Philippines.
HIV cases in the country continually increase. In 2018, over 11,400 victims were added on the data of DOH.
Based on a report from ABS-CBN, DOH said almost 40 Filipinos become infected with HIV every day.
On 1,172 newly confirmed HIV positive in March, 50% of them aged 25-34 years old while three of every 10 young Pinoys aged 15-24 years old were infected.
According to the report, the number of HIV cases to young Filipinos double since 2009.
Health Department Usec. Eric Domingo said teenagers who have no idea about the safe procedure of sexual intercourse became at risk.
Meanwhile, the Program Manager Love Yourself, Danvic Rosadiño, also explained further about the importance of educating the young Filipino.
“Right now, we don’t have a comprehensive sexual education. Isa syang balakid din kaya hindi nalalaman ng ating kabataan,” said Rosadiño.
Based on the report, DOH said it’s important to detect the symptoms of the virus and should be medicated right away before it became a full-blown Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS).
“Ang HIV at the start wala ka namang symptoms, by the time na nagiging immune compromise ka na tapus nagiging AIDS na sya, dun na yun nagkaka symptoms and by that time medyo late na,” said Domingo.
It’s really important to listen and obey the advice of the medical experts before it’s too late.
