The Recto Bank Incident happened a few days ago. In a separate post, it was reported that a Chinese vessel collided with a Filipino boat sinking it and leaving 22 people in the water.

After the incident, opinions as to how to deal with the issue have been coming from the public, famous personalities, politicians and the government.

Fighting for their fellow Filipino’s rights, progressive groups started accumulating at the Rizal Park to protest against alleged atrocities the Recto Bank Incident.

Few moments after their gathering, the protesters started hanging Chinese flags in lines. Holding the flags up, some of the protesters proceeded to light them on fire.

Protesters also brought signs with phrases to represent their thoughts.

Phrases such as:

  • Atin ang Pilipinas, China Layas (Philippines is ours, China go away)
  • China Hands-off Filipino Fishermen
  • Down With Imperialist US and China

These were apparently shown to display their negative opinion towards the incident occurring and to spur efforts to appease the 22 affected fishermen.

The previous information was based on the Twitter posts of Altermidya.

In a video posted by Philippine Star on their official Facebook page, one of the protesters started speaking about serving justice for the fishermen.

They have expressed their concern for the fishermen and apparently wanted to claim their well-deserved rights.

The video was posted two hours ago and it already has 900+ reactions and has been shared over a hundred times.

There was a mix of different opinions shared by the netizens under the comment section. Some people agree with the protesters’ cause and some people disagree with the act itself.

One commenter – concerned of the environmental effects of the action – said:

“Heto nanaman tayo sa sunog sunog.[Here we go again with the burning (flags)] Im not against your rally, but please be mind of our environment. I believe that you guys are capable of expressing your thoughts and feelings without hurting our environment, so please wag na kayo mag sunog.[please stop burning things.] – Facebook user Jethro Veto

That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
