There is an act (Republic Act 10868) in the country that mandates the awarding of P100,000 cash gifts to centenarians – people who have lived up to the age of 100 years or more.

Years ago, 90 centenarians in Iloilo received the mandated cash gifts.

Meanwhile, in MIMAROPA (Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan), 34 centenarians are set to receive the cash gifts for this year.

Lordessa Fe Gilera – Focal Person for the senior citizen sector – announced that there were already 3 centenarians that received the cash gifts for this year.

“Of this year’s target centenarians, three were already paid amounting to P300,000. There are 34 centenarians subject for validation in terms of age, while some of them are now complying with all the requirements,” she said.

Last year, Gilera revealed that an amount of P2.3 million was released for 23 centenarians in MIMAROPA region.

There were seven centenarians from Oriental Mindoro, four centenarians in Occidental Mindoro, one centenarian in Marindugue, five centenarians in Romblon and six centenarians in Palawan who received the cash gifts.

For this year, DSWD has already allocated P3.9 million to be granted to centenarians.

This is according to an article from Manila Bulletin.

Senior citizens are some of the top prioritized populations in the state. Other than the centenarian cash gift, they are also granted other benefits.

Senior Citizen Benefits and Privileges include discounts, stipends, priority access, and more.

Recent reports also showed that senior citizen discounts are also applicable on take-out food orders.

That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
