PAMPI Assures Locally Processed Meat Are Safe From African Swine Fever
LOCALLY PROCESSED MEAT – The Philippine Association of Meat Processors Inc. assured that the meat processed within the Philippines are free from African Swine Fever.
In 2019, one of the health risks that alarmed a lot of countries is the African Swine Fever. It is a viral disease that affects pigs and can be carried by meat products.
Following the detection of the African Swine Fever in the Association of Southeast Asia Nations (ASEAN), a banning of pork imports from other countries to the Philippines was imposed.
Meat products from seven(7) countries such as the China, Hungary, Poland, Latvia, Ukraine, Russia, and Romania were temporarily banned.
Recently, an update regarding the health issue crossed the surface.
Based on a recent report on GMA News, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) is extending the temporary banning of meat imports from China, Hungary, Poland, Latvia, Ukraine, Russia, and Romania.
Meanwhile, Philippine Association of Meat Processors Inc. (PAMPI) stressed that most of the countries hit by the African Swine Fever do not import meat products to PH.
In an statement based on the report, PAMPI also assured that locally processed meat are free from African Swine Fever.
According to the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE), the ASF virus can be transferred through live pigs and pork products and as well as contaminated food and non-living objects.
