Get to know more about mayor-elect Vico Sotto of Pasig City
Vico Sotto, the newly-elected Mayor of Pasig City, has caught the attention of the online community as he battled against a strong political opponent in his hometown.
The son of showbiz veterans Vic Sotto and Coney Reyes has been anticipated to follow the footsteps of his parents.
On the other hand, the 29-year old politician said in an interview that his inclination is not in the glitz and glamour of show business. He had a short onscreen stint as the third party between the AlDub, the tandem of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza as Yaya Dub.
One factor that caught the attention of the online community, aside from his good looks, is how he triumph against his opponent whose clan has veen reigning in Pasig City for 27 years.
His bachelor’s degree in Political Science and Master’s in Public Management from Ateneo de Manila University contibuted to his political career when he ran for councilor in 2016.
As the number 1 councilor, he was able to file the Freedom of Information Ordinance that sought to disclose city public records upon the request of the citizens.
During the campaign period, he stressed out in an interview the hashtag “Iba Naman” with his conviction that it is time for Pasig City to experience change.
Vico wants to address the disparity of wealth between the east and west parts, once he assumes the mayoralty post.
“The east side of Pasig is a whole different city. There’s really a disparity of wealth. The usage of resources is questionable. Most of the programs are geared toward short term dole outs, there are no long-term anti-poverty plans,” the young politician said.
He was also asked to express his opinion regarding the drug war. “As mayor, I would focus on the demand side, create rehab centers and drug testing facilities, which are all part of the Universal Health Care program that I’m forwarding,” Vico Sotto said in a report.
