Gravedigger in Taal Public Cemetery Tops Councilor Race
TAAL PUBLIC CEMETERY – A gravedigger in Taal Public Cemetery topped the councilor race.
Lots of independent candidates won on the 2019 midterm elections. They are the aspiring politicians who do not depend on any party list due to their trust that the people would support them.
Among these winners is the farmer who ended the 30-year-old political dynasty in Narra, Palawan.
Also, the tribal leader named Otol Odi won against the administration-endorsed candidate =. He decided to run to prevent the foreigners in ruling their land.
He also aims to raise the living of the indigenous people in their small town who got affected on the coconut plantation issue.
More on that is the gravedigger from Taal named Arnel Garces. He was just proclaimed as one of the councilors in his hometown.
Based on a report from CNN, the politician worked as a gravedigger and caretaker of the Taal Public Cemetery for almost three decades now.
In 2013, he ran on the same position but he failed. On his second attempt, he got surprised and overwhelmed by the support of his town folks.
According to the support, the gravedigger expressed his gratitude to all the people who believed and supported him on his campaign.
“Nagpapasalamat ako sa lahat ng nagpursigi at tumulong sa aking laban na ito, lalo na sa mga taong pinakinggan ang aking hiling na mahalal sa konseho,” he said.
Based on the report, the gravedigger got 17,787 votes while the candidate next to him had 4,565 votes. He thanked the Lord for giving him a chance to serve the people in his hometown.
“Nagpapasalamat din ako Panginoon sa pagpapahintulot na tupadin ko ang aking adikhaing maglingkod sa bayan kong sinilangan, ang bayan ng Taal…”
“Kahit na ako’y isa lamang sepulturero at ang tanging maipapagmalaki ko ay ang puso ko po na para sa mga Taaleño,” he added.
