Farmer Defeats 3 Decades Political Dynasty In Palawan Town
FARMER – A farmer defeated the 3 decades political dynasty in Palawan town.
Political dynasties occur is several places in the Philippines. It is characterized by families that have strong support or dominance in the province.
Among these political families are the Aquino family, Arroyo family, Atienza family, and Lacson family among others.
Based on a report from ABS-CBN, there is a family in Narra, Palawan that has ruled the town for 30 decades.
But on the 2019 mid-term elections, it was cut by an independent candidate and a local farmer named Gerandy Danao.
Narra, Palawan is a small farmland with about 100 kilometers away from Puerto Princesa City. The agricultural town is the main producer of rice in that province.
According to the report, the Demaala political family have been ruling the province for 30 years now. The farmer said he and his people see no progress in their town so he diced to run as mayor despite not having any funds.
“Kung walang maglalakas ng loob na tumakbo, sino ang lalaban?”
“Kasi ang tagal ng panahon pero wala pa ring pagbabago. Alam ko sa sarili ko na kaya ko ang responsibilidad na ito lalo pa kung para rin sa bayan ko,” he added.
Based on the report, the farmer gathered 15,062 votes while reelectionist Mayor Lucena Demaala earned 14,029 votes. She fell short by a 1,033 number of votes.
Gerandy Danao said he will focus on developing agriculture, tourism, and fixing the water system in their town.
