Around 300 Suspects Arrested Over Vote-Buying Incidents, PNP Says

The Philippine National Police (PNP) reported that around 300 suspects were arrested because of alleged vote-buying incidents.

PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde revealed that at least 302 individuals were arrested in 120 incident of vote buying nationwide.

The agency recorded 22 vote-buying incidents and arrests around 155 suspected vote buyers and sellers last Sunday (May 14, 2019).

The suspected vote buyers and sellers had an increase of 98 and 147 respectively as the supporters of the candidates aim to pursue voters on the last voting hour of 2019 midterm elections.

Albayalde also said in a statement that some political candidates pay the people after they have voted.

The PNP executive explained that the increase added to their aggressive information campaign urging the Filipino voters to report vote-buying cases.

“Persons report vote buying. Before it was tolerated,” Albayalde said in a statement during the news briefing at Camp Crame in Quezon City.
