Three Individuals Caught For Vote Buying In Iloilo City

3 PEOPLE – Local authorities apprehended three individuals for reportedly participating in an illegal activity – vote buying – in Barotac Nuevo, Iloilo City.

Just recently, in Iloilo City, a case of alleged vote buying was exposed by a netizen on social media. A netizen took photos of the cash and relief goods allegedly given as payment for their votes.

Along with the cash and relief goods, a list of candidates’ names were included. The photo quickly went viral and has reached news providing sites.

Meanwhile, in the same City, Iloilo, three individuals were arrested in the town of Barotac for the same violation, which is buying of votes.

Vote buying has been deemed illegal by the Section 261 (a) of the Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines (Batas Pambansa Blg. 881).

Intelligence operatives caught the suspects in Brgy. Poblacion. The suspects identified as: Rolly Tolin, Robert Araquel and Leticia Cataluña was found dubious after they were proven to possess alleged vote buying paraphernalia.

Three envelopes were seized from their possession. Containing: a sample ballot, P1000 cash and a list.

Police Capt. Kenn Albert Lepsia, chief of Barotac Nuevo Municipal Police Station revealed these information during his conversation with Bombo Radyo.

Hespia revealed that the envelopes were from the camps of Biron and Garin. However, the case still needs further probing for verification.

The three suspects are now detained in Barotac Nuevo Municipal Police Station. They are currently facing charges for violating Omnibus Election Code of the Philippines.

As the election day draws closer, political candidates are now squeezing last minute campaign ideas to gain more supporters. But it should always be remembered that honesty is one very crucial value politicians should practice.
