EDU MANZANO REACTION – The actor and politician Edu Manzano reacts over disqualification of his candidacy from the COMELEC second division.
Among the celebrities who joined the cluster of those who turned into politician is Edu Manzano. He is a congressional bet for the May 2019 polls, however, his citizenship was questioned, thus, his candidacy was cancelled by the Commission on Elections second division. This is due to some conflicts about his citizenship to which is a key requirement for public office.
Based on a previous report, the resolution has stated, “Without direct proof of his oath of allegiance being registered in the local civil registry in the place where he resides, respondent cannot be considered to have reacquired his Philippine citizenship under our laws.
He accordingly failed to comply with the requirements to reacquire his citizenship being a Filipino and from the moment he “voluntarily served in the United States Armed Forces, he forfeited the priceless gift of Philippine citizenship bestowed to him by the Philippine Constitution”, he is no longer a Filipino then.
What could be his reaction about this? In a response to a netizen’s inquiry regarding the matter, Manzano expressed, “Hindi totoo. 2nd division lang iyan. May en banc pa. Ginawa na sa akin yan in 1998. Nanalo ako sa SC and went on to become [vice mayor] of Makati.”
According to another netizen, this is such a bad timing for Manzano and an awesome and incredible timing for his opponent.
Recalling, after from what happened in 1998 when the Supreme Court declared him as a qualified candidate, he was able to run a public post as Mayor of Makati City in 2001, Vice President in 2010, and senator in 2016.
