DOE Urges Malacañang To Consider Declaring May 14 As Holiday

Energy Department Proposes May 14 As Holiday Extension

The Department of Energy (DOE) was urging the Malacañang Palace to consider the declaration of May 14 as a holiday extension.

The Energy Department is now proposing May 14, 2019, to be a holiday extension after May 13, 2019, has been declared as a special non-working holiday due to the 2019 midterm elections.

DOE made the proposal to ensure that there is sufficient power supply nationwide during the tallying of votes.

The agency fears that the canvassing of votes might be interrupted due to power shortage.

DOE Assistant Secretary Redentor E. Delola explained that 1-hour rotational brownouts might be implemented if the consumers would continue to use the same level of maximum megawatts.

House Committee on Energy Chairman Lord Allan Velasco asked DOE to make concrete solutions to avoid brownouts on the Election Day.

“The integrity of the election results will raise questions if brownouts happen,” Velasco said.

Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo has also expressed his willingness to hear DOE’s proposal but the palace did not yet receive any formal recommendation from the Energy Department.

Panelo also said that the Department of Interior and Local Government, together with the Department of National Defense assured that the Philippine National Police and the Armed Forces of the Philippines are already prepared to secure the 2019 polls.

There has been NO special non-working holiday declaration for May 13 AT ALL. This is fake news. Please correct this article. SMH.
